"Nothing matters!" the ghost bemoaned, the rise of his voice shattering bottles, opening windows, slamming doors, yanking drawers, cracking floor tiles, chilling the air so cold that time itself froze. The Duke's scowl held for a moment, even if Dion wasn't the principal object of his hatred. "Sorry, force of habit." Kalabas snapped his fingers, piecing back the bottles, closing the windows, stopping the doors, returning the drawers, mending the tiles, letting the night air return to a damp late spring warmth. "It's not that nothing matters, not necessarily. Good for its sake is valued immensely down there, but you'd be hard-pressed to pin an actual philosophy to that overripe tomato. O, and how he deals in absolutes..." Kalabas clenched his spectral fists "I've atoned for each of my sins ten times over. No matter, I'm as hellbound as the day I first died. Why, you ask?"
Dion knew why. Kalabas knew Dion knew why. Dion knew Kalabas knew Dion knew why. They had been having conversations of this sort for the past ten years.
"Because I exist in limbo! Between life and death, this world and the other! Cursed to be and not to be!" before the bottles could shatter, and rest of Diono's break with havoc, the ghost gave them a irisless stare. "Heed. Should you ever die, reincarnate immediately. Even Heaven is just a better frequented HFIL." one of the bottles, full of a clear liquid that the ghost took for some strong liquor, floated into his reaching hand. He unscrewed the head indolently, careful not to press the gun-like trigger, and took a sip. The smell and taste of ammonia were just as he remembered wine to be.
"Nevertheless, 'tis not my misery why we're meeting here, made dark and unwanted, alien, foreign." Kalabas put aside the degreaser. He rose from his seat, towering over the Earthling, his form the same as the twenty-three year old noble who had died to Chill "Well, not just my own, in any case. Supposedly, this pains Roma as much as me."
"I'm getting divorced." Kalabas said calmly, as though commenting on the extinction of saibamen.
