It was a warm, sunny day. Delightful, but then so many days were. Celeste didn't care much for the chattering of the market crowds or for the warmth of sunlight on her cheeks. They were impermanent, unnecessary, and elements she had seen so many, many times before. Instead, she idled against an uneven stone wall, considering the sky above her - blue and dotted with the white fluff of clouds. It wasn't certain to last.
It had been a very long time since Celeste had been lost. Very long by both moral standards, as far as city dwellers were concerned, and that of her own. She could scarcely remember what it was like to wander without knowing where her feet would take her or to listen for conversations that meant almost nothing. Yet, when she sauntered into town, she could hardly guess what would await her beyond its imposing structures.
Hatred.
That's what had twisted her stomach at the sight of this place. Celeste hated the bustling crowds that pushed through the streets in currents. She hated the unwavering walls and the cheerful cries from market stalls. They were a mockery to all her people stood for in the name of their protection. And for what? Did it serve them any better with Selene as their beloved Elder? For all the good it had done in decrying their would-be prodigy, it still did nothing to prevent monsters like Kowlin or Kamae from taking what they wished of this world.
The witch let her fingers trail across the products of a fruit stand. Gleaming apples. Lush berries. Soft plums. She hummed quietly to herself, an old song that stirred with the malice in her heart. The crowds parted around her, a swarm of uneasy and questioning eyes. She'd been told that her presence could unsettle the more common of hearts, though she couldn't personally see why. For all she knew, it was her eccentric sense of fashion. Still, the eyes she caught would quickly glance away as she contemplated her next move against the Covenant. The marketplace reminded her of Levinwood with its chattering crowds and enticing smells. All around came the shouts of shopkeepers eager for hungry eyes. Celeste paid them little mind as she sauntered through, eager to put aside these incessant crowds, eager to return to a place of the past.PL: 24,000 | Antisense: Active
