'How long have I been here...?'
A dim, dying light illuminated the damp, darkened insides of the confinement the battered and bruised bartender found himself trapped within. The low hum of the bulb the only sound audible as the young man slowly came to from the depths of unconsciousness.
Days, months, weeks, all measures by which time has come to be known by had been eroded away long before the present day to the disheveled remains of the young Saiyan captive. Through eyes nearly swollen shut from hours spent being interrogated and tormented in hopes he'd reveal the whereabouts of the only remaining family he had left to his captors, Dion attempted to scan his surroundings for what seemed like the hundredth time, hoping for something to have changed amidst his absentmindedness due in part to his aguish. Sadly, that was not the case.
The cold gray concrete walls that had been his home for the past six months continued to greet his tired gaze. Though, if he was to be honest with himself, seeing if anything had changed was done more out of habit than out of legitimate belief in a chance of escaping. What little hope had been left within his somehow still beating heart had long since passed its staying time, and the refusal to die out and seek permanent respite from this torture remained out of fear of the same men who had taken him focusing the rest of their resources on finding Amara and Carro. So, he continued to endure, and continued to entertain his keepers with the notion of gaining crucial information from a walking corpse.
It had all been so sudden, how he had been put under such circumstances- Dion had been walking the beach after hours, Amara being, irritatingly, absent as she usually was those days, and Carro staying late after hours at the library within the city a few miles off in order to study for his semester's finals.
The young man believed it would have been a lovely enough idea to stroll upon the sands for a little while, to admire the nighttime scenery, but it appeared as though fate had a bone to pick with Dion, and after a pitifully put up resistance, a group of what looked to be Saiyan mercenaries had taken the elder Hofferson brother into their, care.
He had garnered himself the attention of such individuals due to prior digging having been done into Amara's own past and specifically her childhood, wherein Dion himself was a common thread amongst the lot. Despite having done his best to hide he and his brother's identities whilst on Earth, the two were permanently tied to their past on planet Plant, and it was only a matter of time before someone pulling the strings put two and two together when it came to his relationship with Amara.
Bounded, blindfolded, and gagged, the disconcerted Dion shuddered out panicked breaths as he was carried away from the place he had worked so hard to call home, and soon he felt the cold embrace of metal beneath him. His heart sank as he realized the implication of such a fact.
If these were the people he believed them to be, then there was only one place that they were bound to take him.
And so, the young man found himself unceremoniously reunited with his birthplace, and eventually the ship and its precious cargo found itself upon the wastelands of Plant once more.
Still attempting to resist every chance he got- which normally resulted in a quite violent reprimanding or two- the disquieted bartender's blindfold was finally yanked off of him, his eyes squinting at the originally bright light fixture held above him as he found his back quite literally against the wall, with him facing directly three less than accommodating-looking older Saiyan men.
It didn't take long for them to get down to business, and while at first ferociously determined as he was once in his youth to display both his fierce loyalty and unyielding attitude, most things tended to break as you continued to bend them further and further beyond their limiting points.
It took three months for Dion to break.
Then, while still determined to keep his only two loved ones safe from harm, the Saiyan found himself falling further and further into despondency. Although reluctant at first to potentially leave any lasting damage upon their cargo, as Dion continued to push the envelope, so did the pushing of his own physical wellbeing increased. Tears and weakening whimpers birthed from frustration and pain becoming commonplace as the treatment continued to become harsher and harsher.
The hopes of ever being returned to the life he had worked so hard to achieve being slowly replaced by the yearning to be put to pasture at last.
But, again, he breathed- ever ready to face whatever came next so that the two people he came to love dearest could have a chance. Just as his late parents did for he.
And so, now he sits, like a soul chained by regret and duty to their final resting place, waiting for the sweet release every bit of him now hungrily craved.
Though, it seemed fate would be administering such release in a way he would have never had expected...
