BACKGROUND:
Personality:
Celeste intentionally keeps most people at arms lengths to protect herself, using her unusual sense of humor to diffuse tension among others, or to avoid bringing up the harder topics of her past when pressed. Celeste is a brave woman with a resolve that is very rarely dissuaded from her ambitions, as she is stubborn to a fault, often set in her decisions once she’s made up her mind. In the past it was her grounded nature and common sense that made her a rock for her companions to lean on in some of the most trying times. She was always one of the braver ones in the group, not known to shy away or cower in the face of adversity. Interestingly she always tried to make herself available for those she actually does care about, despite her unwillingness to open up to others in return. She adheres to an ideology that every person is the master of their own journey, that it is only themselves who can shape, and fulfill their own destiny. Bearing this perspective in mind, Celeste encourages many to stay true to the convictions of the paths they have chosen to walk. She is by no means entirely heartless; she just prefers to see others try to stand on their own if they can.
While she held great admiration for her grandfather, though she wasn’t afraid to stand up to him, to openly question any decisions made regarding her life or those around it. In turn it made it harder for her to open up to others at a young age, making her rather reserved as she got older. Though the more she journeyed through life, the more she found her voice to speak out, the more she stood against these adversities. While Celeste is known for an abundance of patience, even she has her limitations. In occasions when she’s had enough, she’ll turn her focus onto her own desires, and speak what her heart may really want to say. Though her tongue has been known to piss more than a few people off, and as they say silence is often golden. She can show a willingness to work with others rather than take on a leader role to gain what she wants, demonstrating that she can work without her pride getting in the way. Though she is nothing short of arrogant, and manipulative underneath her masks of charm; a clever, mindful individual, whom masks her intentions under the façade of an aloof, enigmatic and charismatic persona. While at times she can be overbearing in her formality and polite demeanor, she holds little restraint in how smug she can be. It was a sense of behavior which often got under the skin of her grandfather, because he was one of the few who could often see through it all. It was perhaps one of the reasons she affectionately sought to remain a consistent thorn in his side, even if she did her best to help take care of him after he went blind.
Celeste’s demeanor can be described as charmingly demented, often quick to make light of whatever situation she finds herself in, regardless of the danger or gravity of what is occurring. She seems to carry a passive disposition that at times most people would consider inappropriate or unusual. Even if the house is burning, she retains a cool, unnerving calm about her mannerism. She has been known to openly mock others, their motives, and conviction, finding amusement in their reactions and decisions when handling situations around themselves. Though interestingly enough, she is more than willing, if not insistent, of offering an unsettling amount of assistance and truthful insight to whomever she decides to set her sights on. Whether it is done out of desire for entertainment, an intended spark of aid to spur them forward on their path, or merely because she simply can is usually anyone’s guess. As an adventurer she’s passionate about not starving to death, and normally never takes on a job without pay or compensation for her efforts. Though when her heart interjects for a just cause, she thinks nothing of personal gain if she feels someone is desperate or pathetic enough to warrant help.
She has always been fond of exotic teas, rivers and coastlines, ballads on piano, and far eastern cuisine. Celeste fears loss, feeling obsolete, and heartache more than spiders, snakes, or any boogeyman; At times she wrestles against her desires to shake off all her troubles, to be freed from the obligations as a sorceress. There also exists the temptation to let her power control and influence her behavior and decisions, which remains a constant struggle so long as her magic continues to grow. Celeste stands convinced that her deeds cannot pay penance for the lives of friends that were lost along the way, yet she carries on with hopes for the impossible, trying her best to make morally sound decisions where they matter. She believes her pain and these hopes, are used as a fuel for her magic to feed off of, which in turn allows the light in her heart to shine brighter. Though she does her best to mask and drown it all under an ocean of fabricated charm.
History:
Some 500 years ago a shinjin came to the people harboring a resentment of the demon realm, and it's cast out inhabitants which had done these villages harm. They shared a likeness for vengeance and a desire to protect their world from harm, and it would be this shinjin’s design to form a covenant of the wisest elders and monks of the west at the time. These Earthlings, humans and zoanthropes alike, were taught to hate and fear demons; trained by this shinjin in an art of magic to defend other mortals against would be demonic conquerors. For nearly three hundred years the descendants of these pupils would carry their wisdom to each end of the world, forming hidden colleges in each of the greatest cities. Though there were those among the colleges whom desired to live among the rest of the people of the planet, without secrets, without hiding in plain sight. Though it was known that to expose oneself risked endangering their entire clan. Thus, did they resolve the matter with practical solutions. Even though some risked expulsion and ex-communication, they posed as healers, fortune tellers or herbalists to help the needy. Destructive arts to combat demons were practiced in controlled environments in the wilds under the watchful eyes of accomplished mentors. Others whom wished to perfect their illusory magic, worked as “magicians,” and entertainers for coin in the cities to help pay the rent.
Among these rebellious magi was a man of the western college by the name of Solus, whom through a curious turn of fate, would be inevitably drawn into conflict against a powerful entity expelled from the demon realm. This entity, known as Hymn, would possess the elder of the local college, and use him to seek out and destroy most of the hidden villages. When the demon was finally cornered, only three villages and a handful of sacred locations of the many dozen colleges remained. Solus and his companions would hunt the demon Hymn across the globe, once believing it defeated, only to eventually slay it a second time. Eventually the mages came to know a time of peace, when they were finally able to establish shrines dedicated to those lost in the fight against Hymn. They found refuge in the village of Taola, where some still resided to this day, working as herbalists or healers. For many years the clan called this place home, until they would head beyond the desert for the coast, to where the lightning struck thickest in the forests. Here Solus and his followers would seek to build their new home, a new hidden village beneath the trees and thunder. In recognition for his guidance and efforts during their trials after Hymn’s apparent destruction, Solus would eventually be made Elder of the village.
The unfortunate truth was Hymn survived his second battle with Solus, and his spirit had unknowingly attached itself to the mage to avoid imprisonment in Otherworld. The Hymn spirit believed it capable of passing itself on through the generations, by using Solus and his family to craft a suitable vessel with which to resurrect itself. Though over the years that sense of self began to waver, as did the level of its power, prompting a fear that it was running out of time. Some years later Solus and his newlywed would have a daughter, Estelle, whom in the years to turn had a daughter of her own, Celeste.
The two souls would battle for control of the vessel. Though what the spirit had not anticipated was a dissolution of the self in its attempts to wrestle control of the girl. The identity of the spirit that had bonded with that the girl was eventually dissolved in the final struggle, as the will of the host to live was too great to overcome. The spirit did not go quietly, even though crippled and suffused into the soul of the host, would manage to render it demonic as it changed, and corrupted its very nature. The girl would become a demon as intended, but there were no longer any traces of the former identity to the sources of the power which coursed through the girl’s veins. Once aquamarine eyes which had rarely opened in the first few weeks, had been changed to a striking red-amber. Many considered it unusual but beautiful when they saw this change, yet her grandfather suspected a kernel of the truth regarding the matter. Though he went on through the years in silence about it, curious to see what might become of his granddaughter with the proper training. Thus, Celeste would grow up without the knowledge of what she had become, as her grandfather sought to make her a passive experiment over the years. Like her grandfather this girl would show promise in her understanding of the arcane arts, her abilities far beyond that of most children in the village.
She had trouble controlling her magic at times, resulting in ‘Hiccups’ as abnormal as they were comical. Though she always had her friend Lia to lean on for support in the best and worst of times. Celeste was always tried to remain obeisant where her mother’s needs were concerned, which aside from chores around the house, or errands into wilds, unfortunately tended to whatever her blind grandfather required. Though the pull of adventure outside the village often saw Lia, herself, and their group of friends getting into trouble with the parents on a regular basis. She grew close with a few of the neighbors whom also attended her school, and the trio of Lia, Cassius, and Astor became her home away from home. Though even with friends to escape to, the shadow of her grandfather’s presence persisted every day when she returned. To ensure she took after his teachings more efficiently than the other students in the village, Solus crafted a special hat for Celeste, and bestowed into it all the knowledge of mana and ki in his possession. His initial intent behind crafting this hat, was to help guide Celeste in her training, to one day help serve alongside the guardians to earth from the dangers of the demon realm. Though over time it became intended to help draw her demonic powers to the surface in order to study and replicate them.
Due to her upbringing within the village, Celeste would suffer to never know a normal childhood. Many encounters with normal kids her age often became awkward confrontations, which she would inevitably be forced to flee. Instead, most of her time was dedicated to studies and chores around the village, often under the watchful eye of her grandfather. Though Lia was always prone to lead Celeste into some kind of adventure. Eventually she came to befriend some of the other more promising students, whom became like her second family over the course of their many adventures out into the wilds. Celeste and Cassius would eventually develop feelings for each other, yet tried to hide the truth, even though it was practically obvious to everyone in their classes. The group of friends formed a dueling club, which acted out its purpose after class hours, where friends and rivals alike took turns practicing their best spells on each other. What were martial arts tournaments? What were things like baseball and horse races? To understand normal things like this, kids in the village were often known to sneak out into the city after hours, into and out of trouble, unscathed and undiscovered if one were lucky. During some of these adventures Celeste would encounter Selene; a girl that desired to succeed Solus as the next elder of the village, whom would also compete against Celeste for Cassius’ affection. The similarities between the two were frightening, that they might have been sisters in another life were it not for their differing opinions regarding the village’s future.
One day Celeste would accompany her father on an expedition to a cave, where an artifact was rumored to have been lost. Feeling he could sell this artifact to a museum; they could solve what financial problems plagued the family and the village. They delved deep into the cavern, where they eventually came upon a small urn bearing a worn, nearly eroded seal. Believing this to be a treasure rather than a danger, the girl’s father would attempt to remove the urn from the cave, only to be stopped near the entrance by Solus. He would go on to explain the urn contained a powerful demon, and instructed him to restore it to its resting place. Cursing him as an old fool, Celeste’s father would fight Solus over the urn, which became fractured in the struggle. Celeste’s father would become possessed by the spirit within, and kidnap Solus in its escape to seek out the descendants of those whom sealed it away.
Celeste would leave home to search for her grandfather alongside her closest friends, their journey concluding in a village near South City, where the last elders banded together to stop her possessed father’s rampage. The demon could not be vanquished without sparing its host, and thus Celeste would lose her father by the end of the night. Witnessing firsthand the threat the demon realm posed to humanity, Celeste would dedicate years of her life to training under Solus as an apprentice. Through this span of years, Estelle and Solus grew distant of each other, while Celeste would keep in contact with her mother through an exchanging of letters by way of the post. Around this time Cassius would call of their relationship to pursue happiness with Selene, further adding to Celeste’s deteriorating optimism surrounding her training.
As a means to help Celeste ventilate the feelings brought on by her numerous losses, Astor and Lia would pilgrimage alongside her between each of the last villages, to reunite the members of their old dueling club. They decided to band together to renew the club to help younger students to hone their spells and craft, despite the policies Solus and the other elders had set forth on student organizations. Some who studied in the club managed to see significant improvements with their abilities, where more of the younger students used the lessons and time to act out their own legendary tales between their rival groups. Celeste merely used the opportunity to vent her frustrations over her training, as well as those surrounding her father. Though this in turn provided her with problems of her own to learn from and conquer, by teaching herself day by day to better control her spells and mastery over them. With as much improvement and confidence that she was showing, Celeste felt that she was certain to be the one chosen among the candidates for the next successor to elder.
Near her eighteenth birthday, it was deemed by Solus and the elders that Celeste was not worthy to become his successor, the choice having ultimately fallen with him. Solus withheld the true reason of his decision from Celeste, deciding that it was best that she walked a different path due to her nature. Selene was chosen as the next elder instead, and even though Celeste left on amicable terms, their friendship could not stand against the feelings of betrayal that ran through her heart. To say this girl was mad would be an understatement. She became more cynical in her outlook on the magical community, even though her dedication to her training became more focused than ever before. For the next five years she trained and studied harder, fasting during most hours of the days, and passing on trips to the cities to keep focused on her scholastic endeavors. After witnessing her dedication to the teachings, Solus would relent in his decision to train his granddaughter. While she would not serve as a future elder to the village, he felt the decision was a right one to have her trained like she was. So, during the summer and winter Celeste’s curriculum was moved outdoors, so that Solus could teach Celeste to better endure and understand the harshest of elements the planet had to offer.
They camped in the Diablo Desert at its hottest, and backpacked Mount Frappe during the most bitter of frosts. He shared with her the myth about the ancient one and the magical stones of the order, and the two had a lengthy discussion over whether the gems could be real or not. The story became a fascination of Celeste’s, so much that upon their return she researched any lore and proclaimed findings regarding the story that she could find. Her grandfather would set to plan another set of trials and a rite of passage to graduate Celeste from his apprenticeship. Though by this time she had learned enough to disagree with the need for any more testing, having lost the aspiration to become an elder, instead beginning to thirst over ideas of seeking out the power of the shinjin, to unlocking their ancient spells for herself to learn. Perhaps with that kind of power Cassius would come to see her potential again, perhaps the village could be swayed from their confidence in Selene. Her patience with her grandfather had worn thin, her dissolving friendships even thinner. It was time to take the reins of fate into her own hands once more.
The young witch would use it as an opportunity to explore more of the world as she pleased, to learn what the planet would offer up to defend itself when brought under chaos. To understand what drove individuals to want to save this world, and those whom would see it destroyed, she would set out to observe and study what she could of them. She was certain her people had allies in those they chose to hide among, yet she feared the secrecy enforced by their outdated oaths would lead to their destruction. Celeste would do what she could to find those worthy of the people’s trust, and see them brought together to stave off the dangers to this world.

Utility Technique || Magic Materialization
One’s nature as a witch allows one to bend the aether to manifest and banish matter at a whim. Most commonly used to craft her wand and staff from out of thin-air, this is also used for the creation of theatrics, aesthetics, and other trivial items used in the work of a sorceress. This technique is passive and does not require KP.
Utility Technique || Fighting Style: The Mystic (Telekinesis)
Celeste’s style partially relies on the ability to control both her staff, and her wand without actually needing to physically take hold of either, allowing them to orbit her form when not in immediate use. While this may allow Celeste to also use this technique on other trivial items or treasures, it is primarily used as an augmentation to her combat style to free up her hands, so she can keep up with faster opponents. It cannot be directly used on opponents (I.e. Holding, throwing, lifting, etc.) This technique is passive and does not require KP.
