For Kyoha, vacations weren't really something that appealing to him. Whatever time he spent away from hunting bounties, it was either spent recovering from his injuries so he could go back to his job, or training until he found a job. Doing none of these things just felt unproductive.
With everything that he's had to do lately, though, even the idea of spending a day just to himself seemed prudent. With all the monsters and dangerous quarries and heavenly beings, he needed this time just to unwind and collect himself.
At least, he thought a full day would be a short enough time for this, and yet sitting in a fancy hotel room and lounging around just left him so anxious that he couldn't even enjoy himself. He barely lasted a couple of hours before rushing out of East City into the countryside.
"Yeah, this is much better," he remarked to himself as he began some basic sword drills atop one of the rolling hills scattered across the landscape. Some nice, light exercise to get his energy out and let him think.
And well, there was a lot to think about. Multiple times this month alone, he's been put in life-threatening situations. Situations where he either needed to rely upon others or ones that he was simply not ready to handle, and yet he didn't know how he was supposed to feel about all of this.
Should he be mad at himself for not being good enough? He's improved a great deal over such a short period of time, though. Blaming himself solves nothing, really.
Should he curse the fact that he's a Human? His kind is relatively weak, so in the same situation as a more powerful species, would he have done better? Probably, but it's not as if he could do anything about that.
What about the jobs themselves? Kyoha is willingly working a job where he hunts down people who've done something bad enough to warrant a bounty being put on their head. He's being paid to risk his life every day just so that he can continue seeing the huge inflow of cash for his goal to let his father retire early. Is this really the best way for him to work towards that goal? Was a good paycheck worth the risk of dying young?
Halting his drill, Kyoha gazes down towards his blade, looking at his reflection staring back at him through the steel.
"Can I really handle this life for years...decades?"
