He suggested that Reigun was limiting herself and might be able to fly if she put her mind to it. He emphasized his point by floating off the ground. "Oh wow! I always wondered if I could fly like a bird. Hey, do you think I can I go into space? I always wanted to do that!" She paused for a moment to take a breath.
Her tone changed to a more serious one. "As to whether I should... I hate to admit it but since the tournament, I've wondered if I really belong with the circus anymore. At the budokai, I learned that fighting is so much more rewarding than what I've been doing. Lyton never let me perform in front of a crowd so I don't know how rewarding that is by comparison. Mister Yangcong wanted to make me his apprentice but I had to turn him down because I was unsure what I wanted. Part of me regrets that."
A thought suddenly occurred to her out of the blue. She normally wasnt impulsive, but... “Do you think I can sail with you, Mister..." She searched her memory for his name and came up empty "Did you give me your name?"
She had been in a restrained awe! She'd begun to question if she could flight to go from planet to planet, before coming a respiratory pause. Alaistair waved his hand down, as he stated, "Exciting, of course! But slow down your questions, miss. You could, but due to how most bodies handle a space without having some form of protection, I wouldn't advise trying it."
Her next question was serious. She felt as though she should be some sort of fighter. It felt exhilarating to just fight in the tournament, to be in front of the crowds. Yet, it was her statement that this Lyton fellow never let her perform that explained why. It was clear why she declined this Yangcong's proposal!
Before Alaistair could speak, she then asked about getting a job with him, as well as asking his name! Alaistair smiled, 'walking' back on to the pier and holding out his hand to the girl to shake. He retorted, "As I've said before to Mister Chaz, I am Captain Alaistair. Owner of the Cherry Fishing Company and these two vessels behind me! Sailors are always sought after in my company. If you're wanting to put in the work and expand your horizons, you can certainly do that here! However-"
He rose his pointer finger in his free hand as he uttered boldly.
"-you, Miss Rei, are a bit too young to be joining the crew. Age requirement is 18 years old and you're very much younger than that, from what I can see. So, I'm going to offer this advice instead: Figure out what it is that you want to do with your life! Consider what you feel you want to do and explore what you need to so that you can make it happen."
Alaistair could see the bulk of his crew making their return further up the pier. He looked over to them, and then looked back to Rei, to ask, "Do you have any other questions you might have in mind? I've not much time left, as I've got to make sure the crew gets these two vessels ready to go."
Alistair! that was his name! "Oh yeah... Alistair, I remember now!"
He tempered her dreams of space flight with a dose of reality. He suggested that she find a spacecraft. Reigun giggled "Oh...of course, silly me!"
She asked if she could sail with him. He turned her down because of her age. Of course, she was just a kid...one who needed to grow up fast if she wanted to be a fighter. Not too fast though!
She sighed, “To be a performer or a fighter, that is the question, isn’t it? The former, I really have no control over. The latter… I do! Well I can do the kind of training that will work for either until I decide. Next we meet, I will be committed to one or the other!”
He then asked Rei if there was anything else because apparently he had to get the two ships under way. No doubt he had a deadline. Well, Rei did not want to keep him from it!
"Nothing further! Lyton is expecting me back anyway. Thanks for your advice and the demonstration! Come find me sometime!" She started to leave but paused, “Good luck with your sailing!” And with that, she was gone!
