We all know Overages now that we've had a chance to play in the world for a month now.
What do we as a site feel about Overages now that we have the clarity of time? Posts and discussion welcome, but please keep it civil!
I myself am less against Overages than I was at the outset, but I would still like to see a repeal of some kind. My main concern is that it increases the speed of gains sitewide without targeting the gains to a specific subset of players (new people, etc.) in the manner that LMB would and should. I also feel like, in a weird way, it may have negatively effected activity but that's purely conjecture.
I have noticed a significant increase in long posts and pandering since the arrival of that system. Even if I've profited from it, I think it should go
I personally do not mind whether it stays or goes; personally my post length or frequency will not suffer or benefit from it. If anything I have also been doing shorter posts to keep up with larger amounts of threads.

Personally, I'm fine with it. Granted I'm not in many threads so I'm not entirely sure who had been typing for the sake of typing but, in regards to those who I am in threads with, I see them typing as much as they have been before the Overages.
In regards to increased gains, that's... kind of the point of this being implemented in the first place; increased gains for increased post size. If we're talking about how quick it is, then that's more on an issue towards the Post Per XP than it is the Overage.
To elaborate, every post gives 300/400/500 XP baseline at 200 words minimum. If you were to type 200 more words than the minimum, it's only 40 extra XP; an increase of 13%/10%/8% per post depending on the number of participants. To get even a 50% increase of XP per post in relation to the base post XP, in a two-person thread, you'd have to type around 1000 words total. I highly doubt people will be doing that multiple times, let alone consistently.
So, in conclusion, if people feel the gains are too quick, then the possible solution would be to reduce the amount of XP per post as opposed to the Overage. The Overage is already at 20% of your WC above minimum, already low.
Personally, It's been fine. Do think some posts tend to be longer but at the same time, the problem before was the micro post getting the best gains. That was worse. So not perfect but I think no reason to remove it just modify it as time goes on.
I think it's been working wonderfully and see no current need for a repeal
Even if there are small cases of padding or fluffing not only do these instances earn next to no XP, but Overages shouldn't be repealed for the sake of a few people who are possibly extending posts given that for the majority of the site it is working as intended

I personally don't think that long posts are necessarily that bad. It gives a person a bit more to work with and helps sets the scene a bit better. In addition to this, the rate is only 0.2 per word that is over 200. In the end, this really isn't that much to begin with and the primary method of gaining XP is still through posts. Overall, a person that writes a 700 word post that posts once a day will still not get as much as someone who types 250 and posts multiple times in a thread. The only way this might be affected is if there are multiple people in a thread as the gains increase the more people there are in there.
Personally, I still enjoy the overages system since it does feel rewarding posting my general post length and getting something, even if it isn't much as a reward. Even if it isn't as much, it's still really nice to gain something rather than nothing.
Edit: I forgot to finish my first thought. My mistake.

As someone who naturally and fluidly posts 400-700 words a post, I like that I get to receive a little something for the work I'm putting into my posts. Because I'm not trying to post that much for the intent of word bloat, but for the exact opposite, to give my posts enough description and context to be easier to read and enjoyable to do so. Getting a little something for basically trying to make my posts nice is much appreciated, and I wouldn't want to see it go.
No one I've been threading with personally has done any padding or fluffing to increase words. Most of the people that left thus far were barely active or never active from the moment they made a character, such as some of the people that got replaced from the tournament (some not all). Some people got too excited, made a second character, then just haven't played it barely (a few people in the tournament dropped out cause of that as well).
I don't believe overages has anything to do with inactivity or it slowing down, though I absolutely think the tournament, and the timing of it 100% has. It dropped early, but waited just long enough while big plots were starting to heat up. Plant as an example has been put on hold in a lot of ways because of people participating leaving to go to Earth, and I would bet Arcose is close to the same with people like Azoth and some of his faction being in the tournament.
As someone who frequently, before the system and after, posts larger amounts than others and more of an average; I find this system is working fine in helping those like me who do not post rapidly or as frequently but do post bigger amounts when we do. Its a nice way to keep us maintained
